WEEK 3
Week 3 Discussion
1. Please refer to Slide 6 for this question. How do you
like this Super Bowl commercial launched by Google? Which element (s) does
Google cover in this campaign? Can't afford a $4 million Super Bowl Ad? What
are some alternative ways or solutions for small brands to educate their
consumers?
I believe
Google made an outstanding ad. Instead of just showing off the product their
selling, they decided to really make it an experience and draw you into the commercial
and feel at home. With a product that can help and excite so many consumers on
daily basis no matter where you live or what you’re into. Appealing to the
masses and educating millions of viewers on their product, especially on a
plate form like the Superbowl is a recipe for success. If I were a smaller company
who didn’t have the means to pay for Superbowl commercials, I would put my focus
on “key words” to help my product or brand pop-up more on search engines. I
would also try and develop a presence in the blogging community to start a buzz.
2. Would you expect a large drop in engagement rate after
the United Airline crisis in 2017? Why or why not? How could you measure
engagement? What are some metrics you could think about?
I would measure
engagement on the amount of hits the company was getting on social sites,
showing the amount of people searching and engaging with the company’s current
events. In that sense, I believe the engagement rate went through the roof. Unfortunately,
people love tragedy and researching when negative press comes out from major
companies. I believe the ticket sale went down but at the time everyone was
talking about United.
3. What is your favorite brand? Find how this brand use
Twitter to drive sales or increase event registrations. Please do a screenshot of a
Tweet and attach it to your discussion.
I used to
work for Nike and they have been a long time favorite brand of mine. Not only
do they have great products, but when it comes to social media and current
events they aren’t afraid to take a stand. Although some stands will hurt sales
within certain demographics for those who do not agree. Nike believes its on
the right side of history and stands behind their athlete’s, whether the social
issue is sports related or not.
4. Please refer to Slide 10 and answer this question. Which
element(s) play(s) a significant role in the following Twitter campaign?
In the “Marks
of a Movement” campaign the elements playing the largest roles are excitement
and engagement. The author is giving exciting his fans by giving them the opportunity
to pick what the book is going to look. Meanwhile, engaging his fans by participating
in the live vote itself.
5. Refer to the textbook and answer the following question.
Which skills are important for you to be a good social media professional or
content creator?
The key
to becoming a good social media creator is the level of relevancy to current “fads”
and content, content, content. You can post all the content in the world but if
it is relevant to current popularities it will not excite or really engage the
market. I believe to becoming a good professional on social media, all the
posts must be appropriate and exciting to truly show the owners professionalism.
6. Which app do you use most often? Which category does the
app belong to?
I personally
use Instagram the most, primarily for entertainment. In more recent years Ive
found that I receive most of my current events from news stories, global/national
highlights, and sporting news also from Instagram.
Companies
use social media sites as well as search engines when performing sentiment
analysis. Using “searches” and other frequently search words on your devices,
will tailor pop up ads and side website advertisements to display sales and
deals for items or your interests.
8. What are the 4 Es? Why might it be important to develop a
personal social media presence? Search to see if your favorite brand(s) are
using Twitter or not? If so, find an example of an engaging Tweet and tell why
you like it.
The 4E’s of
social media are excitement, education, experience, and engagement. They each
play a different but important role when marketing a company or specific product
to sell. Developing a social media is important because it keeps you connected
with the world, friends, family and current events so many ways. Not even just
personally but professional they’re famous individuals in the world who got
famous quick off one social media video. I know all my top favorite brands are
using twitter and Instagram to help promote products and draw attention. I cant
imagine an extremely profitable organization not having a social media presence
in todays world.
9. Identify a recent corporate scandal (e.g., Facebook data
breaches, Wells Fargo’s fake account scandal) and report why it happened using
the following framework (see the appendix) provided in Chapter 4.
The Facebook
breach has to be one of the largest breach on scale as far as private citizen
information is concerned. Facebook shared private data of approximately 50
million users with the Cambridge Analytica, who combines data mining and data analysis.
10. Did the scandal affect short-term performance and
long-term performance of the business or not? Please do a screenshot of the
company’s short-term (1 week to 2 weeks) stock performance after the scandal
and a screenshot of the company’s long-term (6 months to 1 year) stock
performance. You may refer to Yahoo Finance for individual stock performance
data.
During
the release of all the information the stock did happen to drop right around
March. After CEO Mark Z. went in front of congress and answered their questions,
as well as coming out with a new rebranding of facebook promoting more security.
11. How did the scandal-plagued business use social media to
deal with negativity? Please do a screenshot of a social media post and attach
it to your discussion.
The business
had to deal with multiple different types of negative social media. Including
irritated users who once loved and enjoyed the website like you see below. The
biggest obstacle they had to deal with was regaining the trust that thy had
lost.
